Hawaii For the Holidays: American Safari Cruises Explores the Hawaiian Islands During the Holidays
Seattle, WA, March 10, 2011 – Abandon holiday routines for a tropical inter-island yacht cruise during American Safari Cruises’ inaugural season sailing the Hawaiian Islands. Two weeklong Hawaiian Seascapes holiday cruises sail between Maui and the Big Island while exploring secluded beaches, coves and passages rich with wildlife.
American Safari Cruises’ flagship, the 36-guest luxury yacht Safari Explorer, begins cruising in the Hawaiian Islands in October 2011. Cruise dates have been specially selected to encompass popular holiday celebrations in December. Weeklong cruises depart December 19 and December 27.
“Hawaii has always been a popular holiday escape, and we’re offering a new vacation option that’s very different from anything else currently available,” said Tim Jacox, executive vice president of sales and marketing. “The small, intimate nature of our yacht takes full advantage of Hawaii’s secluded shoreline with small group explorations by land and sea.”
Although the venue will be tropical with no chance of snow, guests wishing for a holiday atmosphere will find a festive mix of elements combining traditional holiday customs with Hawaiian culture.
On the December 19-26 cruise from Maui to the Big Island, the yacht will be decked out in holiday decorations. The executive chef’s holiday menus, premium spirits and wine and special added touches by the yacht’s attentive crew bring the spirit of the holidays to sea.
Ring in the New Year Hawaiian-style on the December 27-January 3 cruise from the Big Island to Maui. Once on board, guests won’t have to travel far for the intimate, shipboard New Year’s Eve party. Scheduled to anchor off the picturesque island of Lana’i, the smallest inhabited island in Hawaii, the stunning setting will be a memorable backdrop to end one year and begin anew. Elegant decorations and cuisine, expertly-made cocktails and traditional Hawaiian music add panache to the celebration.
Both cruises explore Maui, Moloka’i, Lana’i, Molokini and The Big Island. Outfitted for active adventures, the yacht’s well stocked water sports equipment includes kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling gear, wet suits, a sailboat and a tube for thrilling rides behind the skiff. Two knowledgeable expedition leaders guide hiking and kayaking tours. Bicycles are also available for guest use.
Exclusive cultural experiences on the beautiful island of Moloka’i introduce guests to the culture and ecology of the island. Guests may join a guided hike with Lawrence, a 50th generation of his Hawaiian Halau lineage, and spend time with him “talking story” and listening to the land in Moloka’i’s Hālawa Valley—a pristine, breathtaking tropical landscape. Another included tour visits ancient Hawaiian homelands and spends time restoring ancestral taro terraces. Before the evening’s Pa’ina (local feast), guests can explore an ancient fishpond which represents an important part of Moloka’i’s history and culture. The private shoreside Pa’ina is a traditional Hawaiian party with local cuisine and a homestyle Hawaiian music jam session.
The unstructured nature of the adventure cruise allows time to seek out wildlife such as humpback whales and dolphins, both prevalent in Hawaii, one of the richest marine mammal environments in all of North America. Snorkeling adventures abound with opportunities to see colorful corals, sea turtles, sponges, harmless sharks and tropical fish. When anchored off the backside of Molokini, guests have a rare chance for a nighttime snorkeling adventure, and offshore the Big Island, guests can swim with Great Pacific Manta rays.
The Safari Explorer has an on-deck hot tub, sauna, exercise equipment, a wine library and a large-screen TV in the main salon. Exceptional cuisine is prepared with fresh, local ingredients and the complimentary bar offers premium spirits, fine wines and microbrews. All staterooms offer Tempur-pedic mattresses, flat screen TV/DVD players and iPod docks. Upper category staterooms feature Jacuzzi tubs and suites have private step-out balconies. The guest-crew ratio is 2 to 1, with an all-American crew that includes two professional naturalists, masseuse and captain – some who hail from the Hawaiian Islands.
Prices for the 7-night holiday cruises start at $5,695 per person, double occupancy, and include transfers, port fees and taxes and all activities except optional excursions.
