A Family's Ode to UnCruise
The following poem was written by a family sailing onboard the Wilderness Adventurer. Enjoy!
On Saturday, 47 adventurers boarded a 36-year-old ship
To enjoy Alaska’s glaciers and to experience a polar dip
We were greeted by a seasoned crew headed by Captain Andy
Whose knowledge of coastal waterways was to prove most handy
We were blessed with early sunshine and mostly dry skies
Later in the week, we could not stop the mother nature’s cries
We sailed so close to 5 glaciers that all you needed were your eyes
Sea animals, mountain goats, a bear were under eagles in the skies
Kayaking and skiff rides got us closer to the waters of the bay
Bushwhacking and hikes put us on land for part of the day
Movies and books were available to pass the time on the ship
As cell phone and internet service had only a momentary blip
Persephone made sure our creature comforts were top rate
Dawn planned first-class off-ship activities for every at sea date
Everyone’s best friend became our creative bar-master, Steve
Whose company many sought and most didn’t want to leave
Adding to our knowledge of the area was a Park Ranger, Heidi
And a local, native guide with a long ancestral heritage, Kari
We were pampered by a gourmet staff, headed by Aletha, our Chef
All of the meals were so tasty, little on the plates was ever left.
Many thanks also to the rest of the crew
To whom our sincerest appreciation is due!
Cathie, Oliver, and Ray H.
