Finding Beauty in Hells Canyon

Crew of the Legacy

Hells Canyon…with a name that enticing, it’s no wonder adventurers want to explore North America's deepest river gorge - a staggering 7,993 feet deep. We departed early in the morning from Lewiston, Oregon on jet boats that zigzagged across the Snake River, the body of water that carved the canyon. With a sense of exploration, we began to travel deeper and deeper into Hells Canyon.

Although it was blustery in the morning, the sun slowly began to shine through the clouds and before we knew it, we were seeing the colors of the canyons. Green vegetation slowly turned into golden and black colors as we got deeper in the dry area of the gorge. The splashing of the boat slowly diminished as we stopped to observe a rocky mountain sheep and her kid standing on the edge of the mountain. It’s amazing to see how these animals can jump from stone to stone with such grace and ease!

Eventually, we made it to Garden Creek Ranch, a beautiful plot of land that is managed by the Nature Conservancy. This place is unique in that it is found at the crux between the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

When we arrived, the managers of the site had a meal prepared for us. Nothing feeds the soul after a day of boating like homemade BBQ in a beautiful place surrounded by the amazing company of the UnCruise travelers! With our bellies full and with the satisfaction of seeing so much natural beauty, we made our journey back to Lewiston where the cruise was waiting to take us to our next adventure.
