Hawaii: Where Adventure Abounds
By Dai Mar Tamarack, expedition leader on the Safari Explorer
Leave your previous expectations of Hawaii behind and bring your adventurous spirit for this cruise through the lower Hawaiian Islands.
Here on the Safari Explorer, you get luxurious treatment onboard and excellent equipment to take out on adventures. Once the adventure begins, though, it’s up to you to rise to the challenge.
Our guests this week found this out on day one when we descended into the ancient valley of Halawa on the island of Molokai. After flash floods the day before, the two-and-a-half-mile trail to the waterfall was shut down. High water can make the river crossings impossible and flash floods can make them downright dangerous.
However, this is the rainforest, and the water goes up as quickly as it goes down. So, after a beautiful sunny drive around the island to get to Halawa, it turned out that the rivers were passable, although the trail was muddy and it would be tough going.
Never ones to shy away from adventure, this week’s group of UnCruisers were up for the challenge, and a few muddy hours later we were basking in mist from a beautiful Hawaiian waterfall.
This was just the beginning of a week of amazing adventures.
