We have Baja our minds! Last week we were honored to host an event on behalf of La Paz and Baja California Sur on board the Safari Endeavour docked in Seattle. Recently back from its summer in Alaska, the 86-guest Safari Endeavour is in town for rest and refurbishment before heading down to La Paz, Baja, Mexico for a winter of sunny adventures in the Sea of Cortés.

To spread the word about the beauty of La Paz, Baja and the Sea of Cortés, a number of officials took the time to fly up from Mexico and visit with us. It was an impressive group on board:

  • Agustin Olachea—President, La Paz Tourism Board
  • Ruben Reachi Lugo—Secretary of Tourism, Baja California Sur
  • Shannon Stowell—President, Adventure Travel Trade Association
  • Dan Blanchard—CEO of InnerSea Discoveries
  • Toni Freeberg—Leisure Marketing and Distribution at Alaska Airlines
  • Pedro Aguilar Bazua—Municipal Director of Tourism for La Paz

A press conference on board the boat spurred dialogue between media, travel agents and press conference participants. Points addressed included attractions of the area, the natural beauty and marine life, safety of travel in Baja (yes, very safe) and future tourism opportunities.

Agustin Olachea, President of La Paz Tourism Board and spokesperson for the La Paz Developers Tourism Council, addresses attendees at the press conference.

For us, it was a chance to make valuable connections with local officials in Baja prior to the Safari Endeavour arriving in La Paz to begin sailing its new Baja's Bounty itinerary. It was also a nice opportunity to show off the boat and provide more details on the destination to media and travel agents.

Crew members circulated the event with trays of Latin-inspired hors d'oeuvres such as these black bean cakes.

It wouldn't be an Un-Cruise event without spirits! A fresh Margarita starred as the drink of the day.

With the 86-guest Safari Endeavour replacing the 22-guest Safari Quest in Mexico, our guest capacity will nearly quadruple over last season. We are excited to introduce more people to the marine rich waters and scenic desert beauty of the Sea of Cortés.
