This 7-night, pre-cruise escorted land tour features wilderness lodge stays in Denali National Park and Knik River Valley, and hotel overnights in Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Juneau or Sitka.
Sunday: Arrive Fairbanks
Met at the Fairbanks airport, take in local history and colorful characters of the city’s past on a narrated transfer to your hotel. At the evening’s wine reception, get acquainted with your travel mates and tour escort who outlines your upcoming days in the heartland. Overnight at the River’s Edge Cottages (or similar).
Monday: Denali National Park (B,L,D)
You’re off to the Fairbanks train station this morning, where it’s first-class travel with best-of-the-best seating in the upper-level of your domed rail car. Guided commentary provides insight as awe-inspiring views roll by. Arriving in Denali, stretch your legs and grab lunch before heading into the park on a stunning half-day bus ride—your lively driver regales with stories of flora, fauna, and history. In addition to rest stops, you’ll stop for wildlife along the way. Share the journey’s highlights during family-style dinner and enjoy your night at Kantishna Roadhouse (or similar).
Tuesday: Denali National Park (B,L,D)
Wake in the heart of Alaskan wilderness. Adventure is the plan du jour! Hike or fly fish. Mountain bike to Wonder Lake. Or try your luck panning for gold. Your Kantishna hosts suggest activities to take best advantage of the day’s conditions. For an additional fee, take a flightseeing trip or relax with a massage. After a day filled with activity and fresh mountain air, settle in for a tranquil night at Kantishna Roadhouse (or similar).
Wednesday: Knik River (B,L,D)
Be sure your camera battery is fully-charged—today is jam-packed with superb scenery from sunup to sundown! Board a small plane for an included flightseeing transfer+ back to the Denali rail depot. All aboard the train, views unfold outside your first-class deluxe dome rail car on an eye-popping ride along the Susitna River and Alaska Range. After a full day on the rails, it’s a short transfer by bus to the Knik River Lodge. Warmly greeted, your evening is free for relaxation. Settle in to your plush wilderness cabin—outfitted with luxurious amenities and your own deck for viewing wildlife, mountains, and (if the skies align) northern lights. Or, mingle with fellow guests on the expansive deck at the lodge. This is serenity!
Thursday: Knik River (B,L,D)
Start with a hot meal in the lodge. Then, step outside for a day of exploration! Ride to Hatcher Pass and hike mountain trails or visit historic Independence Mine. Glacier flightseeing and dog sledding are available for additional fees. This evening, be treated to a dog musher presentation and special farewell dinner. Overnight at Knik River Lodge.
Friday: Anchorage (B,L)
Your mid-morning bus ride is bound for Anchorage. On the way, make a special stop to visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Discover Native traditions and legends through a presentation of dance, elder talk and Native Olympics. After your cultural exploration, it’s a short ride into the city where the afternoon is yours—leisurely stroll through town, visit a museum, and pick from the many options for dinner on your own. Overnight at the Hilton Anchorage Hotel (or similar).
Saturday: Depart Anchorage / Arrive Juneau or Sitka (B)
After breakfast, bid adieu to your tour escort, then transfer to the airport for your flight*. Depending on your cruise embarkation port, head to Juneau or Sitka. Enjoy the day at leisure after checking in to your included hotel. Explore city sights and uncover colorful history, restaurants, and shops.
Sunday: Juneau or Sitka (B,L)
This morning after check out, join your local guides on a tour before boarding the ship later this afternoon. Juneau^: It’s your choice. A full-day adventure, paddle across Mendenhall Lake* among icebergs. After a beach landing, hike to the edge of Mendenhall Glacier with a natural history lesson along the way. Return the way you came, paddling back across the lake. Or, ride the Mt. Roberts Tram ascending 1,800 feet with views of the bay unfolding below you. At the top, learn about the raptor program then pick among the many trails for a leisurely short stroll or a long leg-stretching hike. Sitka: It’s a quick ride to Fortress of the Bear. Tour this home for orphaned bears and observe their unique personalities. The Tongass National Forest is all around you. Take it in on a hike—your guides know the way. Back in town, get to know Russian-influenced Sitka as you please.

Deposit Payment: A minimum of 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking.
Final Payment: Due 60 days prior to stay / beginning of extension.
Cancellation Policy: After final payment, cancellations for any reason are subject to a penalty. Penalties vary depending on package. Cancellations at 30 days or less are nonrefundable.
*Children must be 12 years and older to participate in the Mendenhall Lake/Glacier outing. Guests with children under 12 years old will have the opportunity to take the Mt. Roberts tram with access to hiking trails and raptor learning center.
+ Flightseeing transfer from Kantishna Roadhouse to Denali Rail Depot is weather dependent. If flight is unable to operate, this transfer will be by bus and a $350/person refund for the flight will be issued two weeks after your cruise. When booking, if you prefer the bus transfer, your package price will be reduced by $350/person. No reduction will be made after final payment. Due to weight limits and other safety requirements, parties may not fly together.
^Juneau activity must be confirmed by final payment, 60 days prior to departure. No changes to selected Juneau activity may be made after confirmation.
